MyChurch - A Gathering Place?

MyChurchMyChurch, a new Web 2.0 site for the evangelical community has recently been launched in beta (of course! it ain’t cool if it didn’t launch as a beta). What is it exactly? It’s more interesting to tell you what it’s not, in their own words:

What if I don’t go to church?
Then MyChurch.org was actually made for you! This is not “MySpace for Christians”, this is MyChurch for everyone. All are invited, come as you are… be yourself. When and if you’re ready to look for a church, browse around the different church communities in your area or check out the churches that your friends go to.

Church is not just about Sundays.
We believe a church community thrives between Sundays, and is most effective when our social networks are engaged. So invite your co-workers, your neighbors, your classmates, your myspace friends to join your MyChurch network even if they don’t go to church.

“Church is the only organization that exists for the benefit of its non-members.” - William Temple

I like it, good idea, let’s just hope it doesn’t fizzle like many other ministry based social networking type sites. I’ve submitted my church, have you?

    Hi Jason,

Thanks for the mention of MyChurch.org. If you’ve got some ideas on avoiding fizzle, I’d love to hear from you or your readers (joe@mychurch.org)

In fact, we’re already concerned about folks not visiting regularly: http://mychurch.org/blog/view/?ID=406 We’d rather worry about this now rather than later when/if we suffer the “Friendster phenomenon” Feel free to offer your thoughts to the discussion…

    Peace,
    joe
