My brother is on a quest to simplify his life. I’m on that quest too actually, although we’re both on the same quest, I believe mine has come more from a financial necessity than maybe his is at the current status.
Had this little tip included in an email newsletter today :
Time-Saving Tip: Shutting Down Your PC
If you spend 10 seconds every day going into the Start menu to shut down your computer, then you?re losing up to 45 minutes per year! Here?s how to create a time-saving desktop shortcut…
1 – Right-click on the desktop.
2 – Select New > Shortcut.
3 – Cut & Paste the correct code into the Command Line box:Windows 98 C:\windows\rundll.exe user.exe,exitwindows
Windows XP C:\windows\system32\shutdown.exe ?s4 – Select Next.
5 – Name the new shortcut “Shut Down Computer”
6 – Finish. If you go to the new “Shut Down Computer” icon on your desktop, your computer will shutdown without having to go through the Start Menu.
Now, I’m all for saving time and doing things for efficiently, but if this is the best way he can think of to share with me how to save 10 seconds of my day, I’m not that impressed. Guess it’s just part of that disposable diaper, microwave popcorn, and instant messaging lifestyle we’re in. Maybe at some point, we can stop actually wasting the time to ask questions and people will intuitively just start giving us answers to questions we didn’t ask. Wait, some already do that.

Saving Time
Such an odd expression. As far as I can tell it's never been done: I mean, no matter how efficient you were last year, you spent ALL of it. Some may spend more wisely, but nobody has any of last year "in reserve". Still, I'm all for shortcuts.
I just am finding that I don't really use the time "saved" all that wisely anyway. Probably would be better off calling my mission: "save effort" or "decrease boredom" cause that's really what it comes down to.
PS: I'm annoyed by any process that takes three or four clicks to accomplish. I may just implement the shutdown shortcut.

I just bought a Mac, and that saved me a bunch of time with the shutdown procedure. :p My computer runs as well as, or even better than it did when I took it out of the box ? and I never shut it down. I just shut the Powerbook's lid down and it goes to sleep. I restart it every once in a blue moon or so, but there's very little reason to.
Speaking of getting things done more quickly, there's a book called that. "Getting Things Done." I've never read it, but I hear it's good. I've just been too busy getting other things done.
