Of course that doesn’t really help me today, when gas is $2.60/gallon.
Bush administration proposes better fuel standards
Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta announced today new details of a Bush administration plan to require SUVs, pickup trucks and minivans to get better gas mileage by the year 2011. This comes as gas prices refuse to budge, and Americans are paying record prices to fill up their tanks. Mineta said the program could save about 10 billion gallons of gasoline. According to the Department of Transportation, the large vehicles subject to the new requirement are among the most popular vehicles on the nation’s highway.
This article above also listed in the Indianapolis Business Journal caught my eye.
That’s great, but does he realize that’s 6 years away? In six years I’ll be we could be a lot closer to eliminating “gasoline” as the #1 automotive fuel source completely, much less making cars that do use it more efficient. I mean if Heat ‘n Glo can build the Aqueon fireplace as reported by Gizmodo that uses water and electricity as its fuel source today, hopefully in 6 years we can make a couple of more giant steps for that same technology.
The other solution to the rising gas prices. More people getting Work@Home options from their employers. Les gas consumption, less automobile congestion, less air pollution, less road rage, less accidents, lower insurance…MAN! it’s like a stinkin’ economical butterfly effect here!
