A couple of months ago I had the opportunity to catch a sneak preview of the Proctor & Gamble Family Movie night. Our family watched “Truth Be Told” and we all thought it was a really good movie. It was a nice change of pace from the options that are usually available on television that we can all watch as a family.
This week’s Family Movie Night feature, “Field of Vision” will be showing this Saturday, June 11 at 8pm EST on your local NBC affiliate. Here’s a trailer of the movie you can watch and share with your family and friends.
Faith Ford, whom you may remember from Murphy Brown, plays the mother of a high school quarterback, Tyler, who’s presented with the challenge of doing the right thing or doing nothing and making sure the football team stays intact to win the state championship. The internal battle of standing up for someone that’s being bullied or staying quiet to maintain the status quo.
After watching the movie last night, it follows in the same light as my previous experience. A great message for kids and families. I really connected with this movie as my son enjoys playing sports and my daughter had very similar personality traits as the younger sister in the movie. Also interesting is the character development and back story. She graduated high school in ’92, the same year I did and her son was now a senior and 17. Seemed very odd that I could have a kid that old as well.
There was one character that I wasn’t really sure about. The football coach was very supportive of Tyler and encouraged him to do the right thing, even though it would mean some tough challenges for the team in their upcoming games. Although I know there are some coaches out there that would agree, I think most coaches wouldn’t have been in support of Tyler’s tough decision, so I think portraying his challenges with his coach that were in conflict with those of his parents and maybe some other adults would have been a better life illustration for Tyler of how to handle those challenges as a high school kid.
As I said before though, I really recommend this movie to you and your family, so be sure to catch it this Saturday night, June 11th at 8pm EST.
