As I was filling up my gas tank tonight after my softball game (we won!) my first thought was, "Woo hoo! Less than $60 to fill-up my car"! The per gallon price was $3.89!
Getting back to my point though, I was leaning against my car and there’s a huge billboard right next to the gas station. It was actually half-blocked from the carport roofing of the station so it wasn’t too effective. I then looked at the top of the gas pump. As I continued to stare at nothing I thought, "Why don’t they sell this space? Talk about a captive audience". I know that many times you’ll see advertisements for something the station itself is trying to sell you, but that space would be worth much more than that in my opinion.
You know the people standing there aren’t really interested in seeing their kid’s education going into their gas tank so they’re almost intentionally looking away from the pump itself.
How long does it take you to fill your tank? Longer than the average commercial break on television right? Even at $4+/gallon the gas stations I’ve driven by are usually still regularly visited by cars and drivers wanting more of the liquid gold. Capitalize on those eyes baby! You know they’re interested in a great deal on something or worth saving money.
