Here’s a photo of the b5ranch in Austin for SXSW 2008. What a great time with everyone. It was nice meeting everyone from the b5 crew that I’ve been working with for almost 3 years now but have never met in person. Arieanna, Jeremy, Shea, Darren, Aaron, Brian, Chad, Mark, Tris, Joey, CJ, Joe, Ed, and of course Darcie and Laura, the ones responsible for drawing my name for the winning registration for SXSW.
Great times guys and gals! Can’t wait till next year or the next event, whichever comes first.
As many of you already know, I’m a bit of a pyro. I got to exhibit my fire-starting capabilities for the BBQ at the b5ranch Party.
One interesting story as it relates to the bonfire is that I could have been killed while building it. I was at the ranch by myself on Tuesday so I started to collect wood and limbs for building the fire. There was a small stack of wood next to an old fire pit that a group previous to us used. I went to grab one of the last pieces of the stack and when I pulled it up there was a little baby snake that took off through the grass. After looking at examples of snakes in the area, I think it looked like a Texas Rat Snake. Seeing the snake quickly caused me to remember that I was in Texas and not Indiana and I might want to be a little more aware of what could be hanging out under pieces of wood. I then looked closer at the piece of wood I had in my hand before I dropped it after seeing the snake. There was a chunk of bark that was loose and I could tell something was hiding under it. When I got a stick and pried the piece of bark back there was a scorpion under it! It kind of looked like this one, but shorter with a fuller body. I don’t know why I didn’t go and get my own camera to take a picture of it. My kids would have loved it!
