I’ve been using Google Calendar more and more, one basic use was to send myself reminders of items I needed to take care of that were not necessarily apppointments.

My only modification to the idea though would be to have different “To-Do” lists for different areas of your life in their own calendar. For example: personal items, household maintenance reminders, auto-maintenance reminders, church activities, children’s school activities, extra-curricular activities, etc.
