Good to see my alma mater is stepping up to the plate and offering educational assistance to students displaced by Katrina. Another thought just occurred to me though, what if more colleges and universities even offered an opportunity for education to those that are displaced that aren’t already college students? An opportunity for them to improve their lives due to circumstance that definitely presented challenges to them?
Mount Vernon offering tuition-free enrollment for Katrina students
Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU) joins many of the nation’s institutions of higher education, including numerous schools in the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU), in opening their university to displaced students devastated by the recent Katrina hurricane disaster. MVNU President E. LeBron Fairbanks held discussions with administrative leaders at Southern Nazarene University (Bethany, Oklahoma) and Trevecca Nazarene University (Nashville, Tennessee) regarding their initiatives for displaced students in the Gulf Coast region of the United States. MVNU has offered to provide backup assistance to SNU and TNU should they need help in accommodating students, especially those who are residents of the Midwest. In addition, MVNU opens its doors to students who are already accepted by or enrolled in a regionally accredited college, university or community college in Louisiana or Mississippi.
