UPDATE: PC Magazine just had this review on the Digital Living System.
Sony just keeps me wanting to spend money I don’t have on the coolest gadgets. Their new Sony VAIO Media Center PC is just beautiful to look at and looks to have some great features too. Yet, one thing I will complain about that’s blatantly missing on this one is a dual-tuner, and the more I think about it, why if I’m going to spend this much money on a device can’t I just go ahead and get a tri- or quad-tuner?
Sony calls it the Digital Living System (I can agree with that!), but officially it’s the Sony VAIO VGX-XL1. Here are some of the specs:
- Intel? Pentium? D Processor 820 (2.80GHz, 2x1MB L2 Cache)1
- Microsoft? Windows? XP Media Center Edition 2005 with Update Rollup 2
- DVD+R Double Layer / DVD?RW Drive4
- 512MB RAM and 200GB hard drive2 (RAID up to 3 SATA drives)
- NVIDIA? GeForce? 6200 64MB DDR SDRAM dedicated memory
- Burn TV to HD or straight to DVD
- Burn up to 200 CD’s through a batch process?
The hard drive seems a little small to me. I think I’d probably end up upgrading that sucker to the largest available and probably stuffing a 2nd one in there too. I mean, if I’m going to be spending $2300+, obviously money is no object.
When I get myself out of debt, I’ll be sure and grab one of these suckers, unless someone out there wants to give me one for Christmas. Speaking of debt reduction, help a brother out and click on the little ad over there to the right and help me get out of debt sooner and into one of these little jobbers.
