A few years ago, my wife and I got a TiVo as a Christmas gift for each other. It was one of the better gifts we’ve received, or at least that we’ve enjoyed together as a couple. We enjoyed the original Xbox as a couple of a number of years as well due to the numerous late evenings competing against each other on Tiger Woods golf.
This year we’ve talked about upgrading and getting a Tivo Series 3 HD box to replace our current Comcast DVR. The Comcast DVR is slightly less than horrible, but still better than using a VCR or watching everything real-time.
The only advantage the Comcast DVR has over our TiVo is that it’s got dual-tuner and HD capable recording. Other than that, the TiVo still kicks its butt.
The challenge is that Comcast has partnered with TiVo and is supposed to be offering a TiVo powered DVR box through they’re own service. It’s currently not available to me, but they hopefully will be sending me an e-mail as soon as it’s available. The question is whether or not it will still be worth it. Right now I’m paying about $12/mnth for the Comcast box functionality.
The TiVo Series 3 would let me replace that cost with a lower monthly cost and significantly more user-friendly features.
There’s also the possibility of us switching to AT&T’s U-verse service for phone, Internet and cable TV options.
Decisions.Decisions.
Anyone in the Indianapolis area have experience with Comcast’s TiVo hardware?
