When I was a kid growing up my oldest brother had loads of the Garfield comic books. I used to spend hours drawing and tracing out the characters and learning to draw them myself. In 3rd grade I actually charged a girl $.25/lesson to teach her how to draw the big, fat cat himself.
Who would have though the comics had so much more meaning if you just removed the star character from the strip?
The Garfield Minus Garfield site is devoted to taking Garfield out of the picture and seeing what life is like without him.
Who would have guessed that when you remove Garfield from the Garfield comic strips, the result is an even better comic about schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and the empty desperation of modern life? Friends, meet Jon Arbuckle. Let’s laugh and learn with him on a journey deep into the tortured mind of an isolated young everyman as he fights a losing battle against loneliness in a quiet American suburb.
It really does give a whole new twist to the comic and humor behind them. The comic above was one of my preferred ones after browsing through the site a little bit.
