There’s been alot of media coverage lately about the argument between Creationism or Intelligent Design and evolution.
In this article, NY museum says Darwin’s theory never more relevant, from Reuters on Yahoo! News, the following is stated:
Darwin’s theory, published in “The Origin of the Species” in 1859, says that all life evolves according to natural selection and is constantly changing.
If that statement is the whole basis of evolution, then I’d say I agree with that. See, I believe that through natural selection, strong traits or characteristics are passed on while more weak characteristics and skills are sometimes lost. This type of science can be proven through the work of Gregory Mendel and all his pea plants. What I don’t believe though is that I’ve evolved from a completely different organism, whether that be a monkey, or further on down the line an amoeba.
Scott Adams of the The Dilbert Blog fame (well, I guess he’s more famous for the actual cartoons than the blog itself isn’t he?) has had some interesting posts lately about the topic and I like his standpoint, although he stated he leans more towards evolution than intelligent design, but that’s fine.
Intelligent Design, Part 1
Reading Comprehension?
Intelligent Design, Part 2
Who Is Credible to Me?
I like that he is really stating that there’s still not enough evidence for anyone to make a sound decision. To me, that states that both are theories and that both should be given equal credibility. I think the challenge that Intelligent Design has to overcome is that if it’s true, then people have alot more to be held accountable for in this life. They must realize and submit to the fact that there is a supreme authority that they may have to answer to someday.
It would be much easier to think we all evolved with the basic of animals and have to give in to our animalistic natures and we’re no different than them. To me, that’s just wrong. Guess that’s why I’m not a big fan of PETA either.
The best illustration I’ve seen against the argument of complete evolution is the analogy of a brand new BMW sitting in the middle of a junk yard. Nobody touched it, nobody put it together, but after millions of years, sitting around all that junk, all the pieces just started to come together and make this amazing car. That my friends is what’s being taught in school as opposed to intelligent design.
“What?” You say that could never happen? According to evolution it could. What’s even more amazing is that they’re saying it happened with an even more complex structure than a car. We’re talking about the human body.
Most mutations (a component of the theory of evolution) result in a challenged or deformed organism. And if we all evolved with monkeys, shouldn’t we then not have any more monkeys walking around this planet? Did they just not pay attention? Were they the slow ones? Are we still waiting on them to make it?
