Read an interesting post this morning that prompted some thought in my head. I’m sure all of you have seen the various emails or whatever about, “Don’t purchase gas at all on [insert date here]”. See, it’s really not about not purchasing gas on a single day. That doesn’t really impact the oil companies or make a statement, because they all know you can only go so long without purchasing it.
So, the key is not to “not buy”, but to decrease your actual usage. Now for me, that makes more sense. For example, back when I got laid off from my old job (although that was nice too because I worked from home!, miss those days) we had turned in my car that was at the end of its lease. I had gotten a job working at our local Lowe’s Home Improvement store and it was about 4 miles from the house. I bought a mountain bike and would bike to work. It worked out pretty well because working at Lowe’s I wore shorts and t-shirt and would normally get pretty sweaty working anyway. But that’s a little harder with my new job, business casual attire. However, at our local prices of $3.19/gallon, I will probably start biking to work again. The weather is getting cooler and I’m only about 2 miles from the house.
