This recent article on the Reveries Magazine website discusses the fact that Little Tikes toys, a division of Rubbermaid, is the only toy company outperforming the toy sector itself.
Although they don’t avoid technology, the stick with the basic and provide toys and environments for kids to imagine and play for themselves without letting the toys think for them.
This is the challenge I’m facing this year with my own son. I’m trying to find toys that encourage more imaginative and thinking play. Right now I’m focusing on toys that I played with as a kid and are still classics because they’re still fun today. Things like Hot Wheels, Lego, and other building toys like K’nex. Now granted, since I’m still a geek, there will be plenty of video games that will still be enjoyed as well.
Is this just my way to Escape Adulthood and have a more childlike Christmas? Getting my kids the toys I enjoyed? Or is it an opportunity to share more of my past youth and my current time with my own kids?
