Last night I scored a few passes to a sneak preview of the new movie “Paul”. The movie is from Greg Mottola and is filled with a great list of actors. Here’s the trailer if you haven’t seen anything about the movie.

The premise of the movie is that Graeme (Simon Pegg) and his friend Clive (Nick Frost) are from the United Kingdom and have been waiting their entire lives to come to America, attend Comic-Con and take a road trip to see all the great alien related sites in the country: Roswell, Area 51, etc.
They end up meeting “Paul” (voiced by Seth Rogen), a rude alien that crashed on our planet and has been held captive, but helping and influencing American society and pop-culture since his arrival. Let the shenanigans begin in the theme of Mottola’s other movies like Superbad and Adventureland.
There are some great scenes with supporting cast members of Jane Lynch, Jason Bateman, Sigourney Weaver, Bill Hader and Jeffrey Tambor.
The movie is funny. The language is prevalent throughout the film and definitely not for younger viewers, thus the “R” rating. Sadly, there were a number of parents there with younger kids, which just confuses me. There’s an ongoing theme through the movie that anyone with a Judeo-Christian faith is a  moron which gets a little old as well. I’ve come to expect extreme language in any movie with Rogen involved and will take that as a general warning for any future movies. Watch with caution if easily offended.
There are some great references and comic relief throughout the movie on geek interests, nerds, alien movies and other pop-culture references.
All in all I’d probably recommend this movie to friends who aren’t easily offended with language, overt sexual references and having your personal religious faith challenged. If you usually steer away from movies with “R” ratings, then this one is no exception.
