Just read this transcript of an interview between CNN’s Soledad O’Brien and the Mayor of New Orleans. Thought it was interesting his viewpoint on what was going on.
S. O’BRIEN: What has Secretary Chertoff promised you? What has Donald Rumsfeld given you and promised you?
NAGIN: Look, I’ve gotten promises to — I can’t stand anymore promises. I don’t want to hear anymore promises. I want to see stuff done. And that’s why I’m so happy that the president came down here, because I think they were feeding him a line of bull also. And they were telling him things weren’t as bad as it was.
He came down and saw it, and he put a general on the field. His name is General Honore. And when he hit the field, we started to see action.
I just think it was interesting that the Mayor thinks the President wasn’t briefed as well as he could have been to the information. I believe since he runs the country he is responsible for getting all the details that are available and be responsible for those details once they’re known and for the people that are responsible for getting the details. But, as the Mayor said, once the President got there in person then stuff started happening. Seems to me that is a characteristic that absolutely can be said of our President. He gets things done. I do think he could have shown up a little sooner though.
Michelle Malkin also states there may be some doubts in many of the stories that have come from New Orleans.
