This kind of stuff just irritates me to no end. Here’s Terrel Owens (T.O.), a guy that left an old team to play with a new one and signed a huge contract to boot. Now he’s trying to go back on his word on that contract and negotiate a higher salary. Good for the Eagles, they’re not budging. He’s now been kicked out of training camp and suspended for a week from the team because of his constant disruptions to the “team” he agreed to join.
I’ve never had a problem with how much sports figures make. If people are upset with how much they make, stop watching the games, going to the games, buying merchandise, etc. The salaries are there because the money is there. What I do have a problem with is when sports figures say they don’t owe anything to their fans, the community or anyone else. I think salaries for all positions should be a standard range across teams, and there should be bonuses earned each year for a player’s individual performance. For those teams that have the money, they can offer larger bonus opportunities and that would be the reason a player would change teams.
But you know, that’s just my opinion, and it obviously doesn’t matter in the sports world.
