The WXP newsletter just shared this link with me listing the Top 100 Toys (by their standards). Pretty interesting, I love toys, but for some reason can’t stand having to clean them up in my kid’s rooms and collecting them from all over the house to get them back into my kid’s rooms.
Here are some of my favorites from the list:
- #93 – Rubik’s Cube
- #79 – Viewmaster
- #74 – Stay Alive! (oh man! I forgot about this game, loved it!)
- #70 – Tonka truck (the old faithful of little boys everywhere)
- #58 – Stretch Armstrong (total kid coolness)
- #48 – Silly Putty (of course!, why is it only #48?
- #43 – Slime (my son just played with TMNT’s slime. How did this beat #48?)
- #38 – Etch-a-Sketch (just wish they would have made it easier to do curves)
- #35 – Spirograph (I still prefer these types of artistic designs
- #31 – Screwball Scramble (totally forgot about this one too, loved it! But don’t think it beat #48)
- #29 – Chutes Away (loved this one too, I can’t believe how much time I spent playing with it)
- #19 – Evel Knievel (I can’t remember what my longest jump was with that cycle)
- #15 – Six Million Dollar Man (made boys playing with dolls cool!)
- #8 – Sea Monkeys (ahh, just expensive fish food)
- #7 – Big Track (programmable 6-wheel drive fun!)
- #1 – A bike (why wouldn’t I consider this a toy? Is it it?)
Of course some things I thought were missing from the list:
- #1 – Legos!
- #2 – Lincoln Logs
- #3 – Tinker Toys
- #4 – G.I.Joe figures
- #5 – Star Wars figures
Given that list, it’s a wonder I didn’t continue my original pursuit into architecture or building of some kind.
