I was over at a friends house today and he purchased some Blu-Ray DVD movies recently because they were on sale, but he doesn’t have a Blu-Ray player yet. His HP laptop computer has a Blu-Ray drive on it and an HDMI output.
The thought was that he could connect his laptop into his Sharp 45" LCD TV and enjoy the Blu-Ray movies he just bought. Not so much.
If he tried to watch the movies on his computer, everything worked fine. As soon as he plugged in the HDMI cable between the laptop and the television it didn’t work.
It would start to play, but then a message would display telling him he couldn’t play the media due to copyright restrictions on the media.
This seems really backwards to me and why I have a big problem with copy protection. I don’t have a problem with people protecting their content, but I do have a problem with how it’s implemented.
This is a great example of where it’s screwed up!
