My friend Tris Hussey shared a link recently about 8 Things Every Geek Needs to Do Before 2010. I haven’t had a chance (well, I haven’t taken the time) to get to all of these items, but they did make me start thinking about some other tasks that I should do to get things cleaned up and ready for 2010.
The eight items listed in the article include the following:
- Edit Privacy and Friendships
- Change Passwords
- Own Your Name
- Prune Your Feeds
- Find A Better Mobile
- Update Copyright Notices
- Revisit Your Blog
- Back Up Your Data
Some of those things I won’t really worry about. I should really prune my RSS feeds. I really, really, really back-up my data. I hardly ever do a full-blown password change and update now that I use RoboForm to manage and control all my online passwords.
I have a number of web clients that I do need to update copyright notices on their pages, I really need to include that and get that done tomorrow. I need to work on owning more of my own personal name on the web. Also promoting the relationship between my online persona of "Bnpositive" and my real-world identity.
I was thinking I really should plan a complete wipe and re-install of my operating system on my laptop. Just too much work to do that, the next time I do it I need to make a ghost copy of the completely clean settings and store it for later use.
What other tasks do you do every year as part of your annual computer clean-up routine? Let us know in the comments.
