You all may remember a post I had about trying to get a better grip on the amount of blogs I’m keeping up with and reading regularly.
Just thought I’d provide a little update for everyone to let you know how it’s going. It’s actually going pretty well. Now anytime I add a new blog to my Bloglines account, I put it into the following category “xProbation”. If I’m reading through a blog I’m currently subscribed to and decide I’m not getting much out of it, I move it to a category I setup called “xPurgatory”.
The reason for the “x” at the beginning of the name is so they’ll show up at the bottom of my category list and out of my initial line of sight. Now, the challenge still for me is that Bloglines keeps showing me how many unread posts are sitting in those categories which for whatever reason drives me and RodeoClown crazy.
So, I highly recommend this little bit of RSS feed management advice. And for anyone interested, here’s what’s currently in my different folders:
xProbation
- Generation Why at Work: Added this one to gather more information for my responsibilities on my day job
- HelpMeBlog.com:blog tips and advice
- Hiring Revolution:more work stuff
- Inside AdSense:more blog resources
- MVNUwantsyou:more for work and related to my alma mater
- Thousand Robots:can’t remember what this one is even about. It’s funny though because their tagline is “Don’t read this every day”
xPurgatory
- 43 Folders:some good informatoin to get yourself organized, I just don’t apply much of it
- Adventures with Fellowship One:trying to get more information around ministry related technology for our church
- Box Office Mojo – Top Stories:movie release information, which is great but I don’t have any money to go to the movies like I used to so this just makes me want more of something I can’t have
- Movies.com Top Five Buzz and News Items:see above
- Movies.com Upcoming Movies:see above
- Cheesman’s Online Recruitment Blog:work stuff, but just not very helpful for my focus
- Dvorak Uncensored:PC Mag’s and TWIT’s John Dvorak contributor. I love his opinion on tech stuff, but his political and personal opinions irritate the crap out of me. I’d love a feed of just his tech opinions, is that possible?
- John Battelle’s Search Blog:web resource
- Never Eat Alone Blog:good life tips from author Keith Farazzi
- The Office Letter:Microsoft Office tips, many just don’t apply to my needs right now
- Recruiting.com:more work stuff
- SEO Book.com:web resources
- splorp.blog:can’t remember what interested me first about this one. Gadgets? technology?
- Startup Journal:business stuff
So, there you have it. Check them out for yourself, maybe you’ll like them and if you read something from them and find it really interesting and helpful, then let me know. Hey!!! There’s a blog feature idea, if I find something that’s interesting on another blog, a quick way to share it with my blog network that likes similar things as myself, or others know what I like and can share it quickly with me. I know I can trackback or comment or just e-mail it to someone, but seems like there could be an easier way to really share it with my network of friends who may or may not be bloggers or even read my own blog regularly.
[…] Okay, I’m now up to 206 “feeds” in my Bloglines reader. Awhile back I had posted about some tips to manage that load of RSS feeds here and here. […]
