Debating on what to get for my mom and my wife for Mother’s Day, I was looking at this “Tea Time for Mom Gift Set” over at the Kim & Jason Lemonade Stand. I read the following and had to ask myself the question…
*Gift baskets are delicate things. That’s why a special $5.00 handling charge is included in this price to ensure that your basket is carefully packaged so it will arrive safe and sound. Normal shipping charges will be calculated at checkout, determined by your gift’s final destination.
If I wanted to be really cheap and save the $5, could I have them just throw everything in a box and hope it gets here okay? Is $5 the going rate for “carefully” packaging stuff? Just thought that was funny and had to share. If anyone has any ideas for Mother’s Day gifts, feel free to chime in.

Jason,
Actually, we'll pay you $5 if we can throw all the stuff in a beat up box and have you NOT complain about the condition of the goodies when they get to you ;)…but seriously, you do make a good point. The reason for the extra five bucks is because that's what the basket company we work with charges to package and ship the baskets for us. So I guess, yeah, the going rate is $5 for "carefully packaging stuff." We originally just sold the baskets locally and never had to worry about getting them across the country in one piece, but when we added them to our online store, that all changed. We wanted people to know why the gift baskets cost more…but you know, looking at it now, it does look awfully silly. I suppose we should probably just elminate that whole explanation…what do YOU think?

I think I love the fact that you saw the comment and responded. Wouldn't it be much better if all businesses were able to respond to customer questions and comments that quickly?
