One of the things I really enjoyed in my early days of being online were the chat rooms on America Online. The idea that there was almost always a room full of people somewhere talking about stuff that probably interested me was intriguing.
The Omegle website brings back some of that feeling for me. The biggest difference is you’re not sharing a chat room with a bunch of people though. It’s just you and one other person and you’re thrown together randomly.
Both of you are completely anonymous aside from whatever information you decide to share with each other while you’re chatting.
It took me a minute to get going as the first three people I started chatting with almost immediately dropped out of the conversation after a few sentences. I didn’t realize I was that boring to talk to online.
At the time I was chatting there were around 2400 active users online throughout the time. Getting started in the conversation was a little challenging, but interesting to talk to someone completely at random and see what you have in common. I finally had a good chat with someone from Orange County, CA. Seemed younger as they didn’t know where Indianapolis, IN was on the map.
Give Omegle a try and get to know someone. Uncover a new contact around the world or across the street with Omegle, you just never know.
