Filing Your Taxes at the Last Minute

You know what tomorrow is don’t you? If you live in the United States you’ll probably realize it’s Tax Day. Time to start helping pay off that $12 trillion dollar deficit right? I heard an interesting fact this weekend. Do you know if you started a business back when we switched from BC to AD and you last $1M dollars a day every day up until today, you’d still need over 700 more years of losing that money to have lost $12 trillion?

Exporting Google Bookmarks Isn't Obvious

Today I spent a little bit of time trying to figure out something that should be much more obvious than it is for the end-user. All I wanted to do was to export my Google Bookmarks so I could share a section with someone very easily in a list format.

If you click on “Manage all…” as shown in the image above, you get the general bookmark management screen, but nowhere on that screen is there any type of wording that would suggest how to quickly export your bookmarks to a file.

Here’s where it become a challenge for me. I didn’t want to export all of my bookmarks, just a subset of them that I had created. I clicked on the subset I wanted and then went to the “Tools” drop-down control in the top-right of the screen. Nothing would activate. Couldn’t figure out why.

I found this page letting me know that I could quickly download my bookmarks by just going to this link (https://www.google.com/bookmarks/bookmarks.html) on my computer.

What I’ve discovered later was that if you click on a subset of your links, the “Tools” function is no longer available. If you just click on your main bookmarks as a whole the “Tools” function is available and a single-click allows you to export quickly.

Uncovering Your Tracks

Sometimes uncovering all the cool stuff on the web means you sign-up for a lot of sites to give them a try, only to realize later that you’re really not interested in maintaining your profile on those sites. The challenge can be trying to get rid of those profiles on sites you’re not interested in using anymore.

There’s a very helpful article on the PC Magazine website on How to Delete Accounts from Any Website. The article runs through the process of getting rid of your profile on one of 23 different websites: Classmates, Facebook, Friendster, LinkedIn, MySpace, MyLife, Amazon, Audible, Blockbuster, eBay, iTunes, Netflix, PayPal, Blogger, Twitter, Flickr, Photobucket, YouTube, AOL/AIM, Apple MobileMe, Google, Windows Live, and Yahoo.
