I can’t remember where I first heard about or saw Blue Man Group, but I’ve never seen them before in person. I was so excited to catch them while I was in Vegas and had huge expectations of the show. Luckily the performance delivered on all levels.
The show based around the How to Be A Megastar delivered from start to finish and took care of all the little quirks of entertainment that make something a memorable event. Even from the point of sitting in my seat and waiting for the show to begin, the venue keeps the crowd intrigued with a variety of messages that scroll along two LED message bars. I’ve got quite a bit of theater lighting experience and stagecraft work, so I’m intrigued by just looking around the theater at the different lighting rigs that are visible and the structure itself.
One of the things that I wasn’t expecting of the show was the extended dramatic pieces. I thought most of the show would just be the trio performing a variety of pieces with their iconic PVC instruments. There was so much more to the show though, including a variety of audience participation pieces.
That’s not to say that they didn’t rock out the place when they really started jamming the music. The supporting band, which looked like animated figures instead of human, with the use of blacklights, accented the music and production perfectly.
They were also a variety of really cool special effects in the show as well. I won’t share too much though because seeing them for the first time makes them all that more impressive. Giving you time to think about it or imagine what’s going on will take away from your enjoyment I’m sure. The show comes to you though in every sense.
Here’s a bit of press about the show at The Venetian:
Blue Man Group has opened its most lavish production ever, in The
Venetian?s 1,760-seat theatre, built especially for this spectacular
show. Join the celebration and see the show that USA Today calls ?an
absolutely ecstatic experience? and Time magazine calls ?a Sensation?.

My wife was pretty upset that I got to go while I was in town and she didn’t when she was in Vegas with her friends earlier this year. With friends that live in Vegas and that are eager for us to come out as a couple, I’m sure we’ll be planning another outing soon. I’ll have to save up for it though, because there are a number of shows that the two of us want to see. You’d better believe that Blue Man Group will be at the top of the list again though.
