Jake Walker is a star receiver for his football team and is working on finalizing a new contract for his career. The only problem is that his knee is putting some doubts in the reporters, his team, coaches and himself on his ability to achieve his goal of breaking more records.
Jake’s dad, Frank, played by veteran actor Beau Bridges is still the high school football coach in the little town of Riverton where Jake grew up. The local town doctor, wants the coach to look the opposite direction and not ask any questions when a star player is interested in playing for his team, but doesn’t live in the school district. Jake’s dad, isn’t interested in cutting corners or breaking the rules.
When Jake’s dad has a heart attack, Jake has to put things on hold as he returns to his small town and fulfill his role as oldest brother and son to their ailing dad.
It appears that Jake has always been more concerned with his own efforts and achievements than being a member of his team. His dad called him out on that attitude and their relationship has been strained ever since.
As Jake extends his time in his hometown, he reconnects with his high school sweet heart and works on rebuilding the strained relationship with his brother and his dad.
