There’s a new geo-location based service that I just found out about called Neer. I’m already using BrightKite, Foursquare and Gowalla, so not sure if I need this one but it does something that’s kind of nice. I can setup the application to work silently in the background and let an “inner-circle” of people know where I’m at without having to update anything on my phone manually.
For example, Neer can let my wife know that I’ve left the office and I’m heading home. Or, let her know when I’m at home, or a list of other places I setup as being those included in notifications to that circle.
One thing I wish is that new apps would stop getting developed on their own location based solutions, but instead integrate with the other location services I’m already using.
My other search involves a location based reminder service. I don’t need to be reminded to do something at 5pm on Thursday, I need to remember to pick-up that sleeping bag I let my brother borrow the next time I’m near his house on the north side. If you can find me a service that does that reliably, you’ve got a winner.
So…got it for my iPhone too. Seems like a nice idea, but it comes at a price. The location services stays on constantly. Nice idea, but DRAINS batteries. Gotta make sure you keep it on a charger some how…
Nice to see you blogging again!
Yeah, battery drain seems to be the biggest issue for any Smartphone I've seen, regardless of OS. I've been trying to be a little more consistent recently in my blogging. I give you permission to kick my butt when you don't see posts coming regularly.
Two things. 1) How the heck do you have follow links in your comments, I thought the world did away with that. 2) Can I install this on my sons Android so I can track him at all times ;)

I'm sure you could install it on your son's phone and setup the locations you want to be notified of when he arrives. My question would be if you could lock it down so he couldn't turn it off. I'm guessing probably not. Regarding the nofollow links, the comment links are showing as nofollow to me with my site analyzer. Where are you seeing that they are followed?
