Disney’s Internet Speed Far From Magical

I'm enjoying the Walt Disney World resort with my family in Orlando, FL and it's finally time to connect to the Internet and catch-up on some stuff.

My first thought is why in the Walt Disney World are they charging for Internet access? The costs are $9.95 for 24 hours of access. That's not 24-hour access (technically it is), but 24 hours of access. Most mainstream hotel properties these days offer free wireless in their hotels, but not Disney. Disney only offers wired connectivity, not for free and the speed isn't fast.

I knew that the speed was going to be an issue when I read the marketing material and say that "speeds up to 5 times faster than dial-up" was what was listed. Only 5 times? Seriously? YEP! They're serious, see the screen shot above.

One of the reasons I decided to connect tonight is to upload the hour of video I shot with the new Flip Ultra video camera I received from my mother-in-law before we left for the trip. After experiencing these Internet speeds, and really slow upload speeds I don't think I'm going to be able to really upload much of anything. Maybe I'll just leave the computer connected all night and upload. We'll see.

The Flip has come in really handy. Great little camera for the trip. It's been nice to just pull it out of my pocket and almost immediately begin shooting video.

I was shocked that they charged and that it was wired last year. There are so many other amenities that I couldn’t believe that they didn’t offer what your average Marriot would
