I received an email earlier this evening letting me know that Pownce was going to be shut-down as of December 15th. What I didn’t realize is that Six Apart has purchased the company and then shut it down. Hmmm.
This was the text of my email:
We are sad to announce that Pownce is shutting down on December 15,
2008. As of today, Pownce will no longer be accepting new users or new
pro accounts.To help with your transition, we have built an export tool so you can
save your content. You can find the export tool at Settings > Export.
Please export your content by December 15, 2008, as the site will not

The Pownce Crew
Pownce was one of those social media services that was cool and had the features you’d expect, but for me it just duplicated services I was already using. There didn’t seem to be any real hook for me to start using it and ditch the other services I was using. Services as popular as twitter or as mundane as good ol’ email.
It happens more than I realize, but I am curious as to what the plans are for Pownce and SixApart. Guess we can all keep an eye on the Pownce blog for more information as it becomes available.
