The Papa Roux Hand-Drawn QR Code

Could a hand-drawn piece of art actually work as a functional QR code.

What's a QR code you ask?

A QR Code is a matrix code (or two-dimensional bar code) created by Japanese corporation Denso-Wave in 1994. The "QR" is derived from "Quick Response", as the creator intended the code to allow its contents to be decoded at high speed. - Wikipedia

If you've read my posts while actually visiting my site and not reading the posts through an RSS feed, you may have seen the QR code that allows you to scan the 2-dimensional barcode and grab my contact information.

If you follow me regularly here and in my other social media activities, you'll probably also know that I do whatever I can to support my friend, Papa Roux. Well Papa Roux shares with me tonight a hand-drawn QR code and wants me to test it.

Look at that! And you know what. It works!

It didnt initially on my Barcode Scanner app for my Android phone, but it eventually did when I resized it and focused it on it a bit more. If you've got a suggestion for another barcode scanning app for the Android, let me know.

I don't know how it works, can't believe it works with such non-block glyphs on a page. Papa was telling me it was all about how it just quantize's from the 3 main corner blocks and then registers the different coordinates on a basis of being > 50% or < 50% black and white. Honestly he lost me quick, because I have a problem of just dreaming about eating at his cajun restaurant on the east side of Indianapolis anytime I start talking to him.

The sketch art reminds me of the work that John Uhri (@y0mbo) does with his Sketchnotes. Regardless, this is just cool stuff.
