Essential Supplies Every Motorist Needs to Have In Case of a Roadside Emergency

Roadside Automobile Accident

Whether you have AAA or belong to an economically priced motor club that promises to help you at any time you are in need, it is just safer to be prepared for emergencies on your end. Like many other motorists, you probably would prefer it if someone else were to come out and fix your flat tire but the time that it can sometimes take for emergency roadside assistance to get to you can be quite excessive.

It could be because your car has become disabled in some distant and remote area, or in the event that all roadside assistance technicians are currently dispatched. Keeping a jump starter in the trunk of your vehicle, along with an entire emergency roadside kit will keep you safe, warm, out of danger, and potentially make it so that you can resolve any technical issues you are having with your vehicle on your own.

Basic Roadside Assistance Provisions

There is probably already a spare tire and a vehicle jacking device of some sort in the trunk area of your vehicle. Although those things can be helpful if you have a tire blowout, there are many kinds of roadside emergencies that you can find yourself in. At a minimum, you should be able to find a few bottles of water, a flashlight, blankets, a small toolkit, and jumper cables or jump starter box in the rear of your car for emergencies. If you’d like, put some snacks, a spare cell phone charger and a portable radio in your vehicle as well so that you are prepared for longer durations.

Tools Drivers Need During Roadside Emergencies

Not all motorists are capable of changing their spark plugs or even doing much more than opening the hoods of their cars, but there are also many times when having the right tools can provide the solution that you need. In the event that your car battery dies, you can either wait to have it towed, hope that emergency roadside assistance personnel can jump your car, or you can charge your battery yourself. A jump starter will be needed for you to recharge the dead cells in your car’s battery, but this type of tool is exceedingly easy to operate, even for an inexperienced motorist.

Knowing When to Use Your Roadside Emergency Supplies and When to Stay Put

If your car has broken down in an area where you don’t feel that you can safely exit your car, make sure that you call for help first. This could be the case if your car is disabled on a busy freeway, either in the shoulder or in a traffic lane. If you fear that a collision could occur, use traffic cones, reflectors and flares to signal to oncoming drivers that your car is disabled. Otherwise, use your judgement and street smarts to decide whether you can make an attempt to diagnose and repair your car or just wait for support services to arrive.

Drivers that have the right tools and are prepared to deal with roadside emergencies are less likely to panic and can make snap judgements that keep them safer. All you need to do is take a look inside of the trunk of your car and see if you would be able to stay comfortably inside your car for a while based on what you see. Although people always hope to avoid having roadside emergencies, there are ways to make them more bearable.

Why Every Business Should Have Backup Power

Electrical Power Tower

This has been an unusual year in that there were weather anomalies across the entire nation for most of December through April. If all those snow storms, floods, and tornadoes didn’t hit home on the importance of backup power, nothing probably will. Not only was this a bad winter from a climatological perspective but the past decade has been one of drought in the Northwest of the nation and there were multiple fires that wiped out entire neighborhoods and small towns. Consider the following reasons why you, as a small business owner, should seriously check out generators for sale so that you can be prepared.

Security from Theft

Everything in your place of business is dependent upon electricity to remain secured. Even your security system has a backup battery that is only good for a brief period of time, usually only a couple hours so backup power is vitally important. Also, nothing from your cash register to your store lights will work without power so it is important to have a reliable backup source. Police stations have backup power for this reason and fall within FEMA’s guidelines for best practices. You should do the same to protect your place of business.

Protection against Loss of Product

Some businesses that hold hot or cold food need to be assured they can maintain temperature control. If a storm should suddenly sweep through downing power lines, it could be days or weeks before power is restored. Your entire inventory would spoil and you would be out a huge amount of money. Even insurance may not cover your total losses.

Ability to Remain Open When the Competition Is Closed

Not every business owner in your town is going to be as prepared as you are. For as long as the power is off, you will find that their customers in need of what you sell will wander over to your business. Some of them may remain loyal customers ever after simply because you were organized and prepared enough to have power in place to continue operations.

Public Service to the Community

Along those lines, what if you were running a grocery store that sold baby food, milk, diapers and medical supplies? What good would it do to have those items in stock if your lights wouldn’t turn on and your computer or cash register wouldn’t work? Yes, you could calculate sales longhand, but how would anyone see to actually do any shopping? By ensuring you have continued power even during a major disaster, you will be doing a great public service and the community will remember you for it.

These are just a few of the reasons why every business should have backup power. There are a great number of other reasons, but the point is made. If you want to protect your inventory, in fact your entire place of business, you want to ensure a continual supply of power to anything run by electricity. There is no telling when the next disaster might strike, manmade or natural, so it is in your best interest to begin looking at generators for sale now. Don’t wait until it’s too late because no one would be able to sell you one at that time and you’d experience all the above losses and so many more. Always plan for the best but prepare for the worst. Get that generator today!

Power Options for Pilots in An Emergency

Airplane PropellerIf aviation is your passion, you need to be sure that you buy the right equipment to make your flights safe and free of any problems. There are many things that you need to consider when you fly your own plane. Although flying among the clouds can be fun and fulfilling, it can also be very dangerous if you do not make the proper preparations. Some of the most important things you must consider are the items to start your plane. If you need to make an emergency landing in a remote area, you definitely want to make sure you are able to restart your plane. Here are some options when you are considering the right items to start your plane.

1. Portable starting unit

You will be able to find a portable power pack in either lithium or lead acid. Start Pac has a wide selection of both. They can be viewed at https://startpac.com/products/portable-starting-units/model-2300qc/. It is important to know that if you buy a power supply that contains lithium, it will offer two times as much power as its lead acid counterpart. It is also considerably smaller and lighter, so there is no down side to buying one. However, it is important to know whether you need to get one that is 24 or 26 volts before you make a purchase. Buying the wrong voltage could be disastrous when you are desperate to start your plane.

2. Ground power unit

A ground power unit is something you do not want to be caught without. There are combo units that are available which also include a battery pack. These are specially designed to be used in situations when you are going to need to start your plane repeatedly during a short period of time. This often happens when you are performing maintenance on your plane and you need to test the engine. The vast majority of models are either 24 or 28 volts.

3. Portable power supplies

You will also need some portable power supplies in order to make sure your aircraft is always running at peak efficiency. These power supplies are made so that the plane will be able to run the same way that it would if it were running on its own power. If you need to perform certain maintenance tasks on your plane when your engine is having difficulties, this will allow you to fix the problem and worry about the engine later.
