I’m a fairly active person on twitter and Facebook. The challenge though is that I have a very different group of friends on the two applications.
I did have it setup to allow twitter to update my Facebook status whenever I updated twitter itself. I thought it was really handy, you know killing two birds with one stone.
The challenge was that there were a number of my friends who had no clue what twitter was and I think were overwhelmed with the amount of status updates they were seeing of mine come across the system. So? I decided to let one of the aforementioned birds live and only kill one of them at a time.
The second challenge that arose from that decision is trying to figure out how to get twitter to stop updating Facebook.
Here’s How to Tell Twitter to Stop Updating Facebook
- Select twitter in your Facebook applications
- Click on the "Settings" link in Facebook and you’ll see an option for "Twitter Settings". Select it.
- The Edit Twitter Settings panel displays and gives you all the options you can set for the relationship between twitter and Facebook.
I just selected the option to "Never publish any stories from Twitter" and left the application installed just in case I change my mind later.

Was just thinking through this same thing today. On the one hand the comment debates within facebook have been pretty awesome when I allow twitter to post to my status … on the other hand non-twitterers get overwhelmed quickly.
I'm also struggling with the best approach to using FriendFeeds auto post feature. Initially I tried just posting my own blogs to twitter, but that was really redundant since I already have auto-posts set up. Then I tried posting my google reader shared items with a direct to my friendfeed post with my attached comments. But some people complained that they had to go to friendfeed and then click again to get to the article. Still not sure the best way to use this feature, but again the activity in commenting makes me think it is worthwhile somehow.

I have found that my friend like my updates at both sites. Like you I decided to kill two birds with one stone. Much like my updates from my blog go to mychurch.com which I really never go to, I have people there that comment occasionally on what I write.
I guess the question to me is… why are your non twitter friends so overwhelmed? Do they not have other friends? To me it is a great feature and I love that I can have discussion in both places… often one place will pick up when the other does not… so it works out.
Again, most of my friends seem to love my updates and I haven't had any complaints… so maybe the non twitter friends need to just get with it or maybe what we say should be interesting… ahem… not that you are not… oh boy… now I dug a hole…
Keep updating Jason! I won't complain. = )

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
I couldn't figure out how to stop the madness, and I had the same problem you did. Thanks for giving me the solution.
