The Best Salad I Ever Ate

Savannah Cotton ExchangeIn December on our family vacation, one of the places we visited was Savannah, GA. While we were there we visited Paula Deen's The Lady and Son's Restaurant, took a trolley tour with Old Savannah Tours through historical Savannah, and had dinner at The Olde Pink House.

My wife thought the BLT Salad with Fried Green Tomatoes looked good. She asked me to get it and "share" it with her. Our server then reminded us that it had been chosen by The Food Network chef, Aaron Sanchez, as his choice for "The Best Thing I Ever Ate - Sliced".

He was absolutely correct! Along with everything else we enjoyed at our meal! This place is fantastic and if you're in Savannah, be sure and make reservations for you and your special someone. We took our two kids and although they enjoyed it, it wasn't necessarily "kid friendly" for choices of food. My son enjoyed half of a filet mignon, which I then enjoyed about 5 hours later in the hotel when it was cold... and it was still absolutely fantastic!

The Cobb Galleria Festival of Trees

One of the first stops on our family vacation was in Atlanta, GA. We stayed at the Embassy Suites Atlanta Galleria and they hosted The Cobb Galleria Festival of Trees.

What's the deal with all of the Christmas trees?

[nggallery id=4]

The Embassy Suites Atlanta Galleria hosted The Cobb Galleria Festival of Trees. The festival was an opportunity for visitors to indulge in the spirit of the season and give back to the non-profit organizations in the area.

Each one of the trees in the lobby area were decorated by a local charity or non-profit. For six weeks visitors to the Embassy Suites Atlanta Galleria were able to vote for their favorite trees by donating money at each station available for the trees.

Visitors were encouraged to enjoy a warm cup of hot chocolate and browse through the different trees and read the compelling stories of each charity and its wonderful goals.

The Bean Family Vacation is Well Underway

BnFamFL10-travel-mapWe've hit just over 800 miles and are now in Savannah, GA. It's a little chillier than we had expected, we are in the "South" right? Seems close to the South Pole at this point.

We've had a great time so far and seen some impressive things. We started off with a short stop in New Albany, IN so my sister-in-law could take our son to the Winter Wonderslam concert with Skillet and TobyMac for his birthday. From there we drove to Atlanta and visited the Georgia Aquarium and World of Coke Museum. Before we left town we had dinner with my niece, a freshman volleyball player at Kennesaw State University, at The Varsity, the world's largest drive-in restaurant and they've been asking "What'll ya have? since 1928.

We're visiting quite a few places and I'll be writing about our travels on a variety of different websites during our trip.

  • I'll have a review soon of my experience in Cobb County, GA on the Cobb County CVB website.
  • My first featured blogger post was just published on the i.seeKissimmee blog, that's where I'll be covering more of our experiences in things to do in the Kissimmee and Orlando area.
  • I'll have a post coming up soon on the Dads Talking website, there I'll discuss the challenge of being the dad and providing a family vacation.
  • The Family Traveler blog will share some of the fun we had as a family on our trip.
  • I'll have another featured post up on Traveling with MJ's site, where I shared about our family Spring Break trip this past year.
